The experience of aperitivo is a cultural ritual. Derived from the Latin aperire, the tradition is meant “to open” the stomach before dining. Accordingly, for centuries Italians have said cheers – cin cin – over drinks and appetizers in the early evening hours between work and dinner.

Some people take or see aperitif as an event that serves as an appetizer to dinner; with the purpose of socializing with friends; for just a nice refreshing time or a simple refreshment during business or casual meetings etc. To some, aperitivo is just an early evening drink or meal that is meant to stimulate the appetite.

For some cocktail lovers, aperitivo is not just an appetizer, as it’s sometimes perceived and consumed as a full course or complete refreshment. This may depend on factors like mood, state, occasion, the quality or quality of served meals or the accompanying drink.
